13歳の時にスペインからキューバに移住したホセ・ヘネル氏が叔父の農園で働きつつ、20年後に自身の葉巻工場を開設して独自の葉巻ブランド「ラ・エセプシオン」を作りました。その売り上げで、キューバ最高峰のたばこ葉産地の一つであるサンファン・イ・マルティネスに農場を購入して誕生したのが『HOYO DE MONTERREY(オヨ・デ・モントレイ)』です。
「HOYO」とはスペイン語で「穴」を意味しており、最高のタバコ葉産地として有名なこの地の形状になぞらえて名付けられました。
「LE HOYO」はより豊かな風味を持つシガーへの需要の高まりに応じて1970年に作られたシリーズで、LE HOYO DE SAN JUAN（通称 サンファン）はそのシリーズの一つとして2014年にリリース開始されました。
キューバのタバコ葉産地で最上級とされるブエルタ・アバホには大きく3つの産地があり、そのうち一つの「サン・ファン・イ・マルティネス」で生産されたタバコ葉を用いて巻かれることからその名がつけられました。
また、使用する葉も苗の中間より上の部分の葉っぱであるリヘロとセコのみで巻かれることによって、オヨのブランドが持つ柔らかく穏やか印象よりもややボディが強く、よりエレガントな味わいになっています。喫煙目安時間が80分ほどと少し大きめのサイズ。ぜひ一度お試しください。

Jose Henel immigrated to Cuba from Spain at the age of 13, worked on his uncle’s farm, and 20 years later opened his own cigar factory and created his own cigar brand, La Ecepción. With the sales, they purchased a farm in San Juan y Martínez, one of Cuba’s top tobacco producing regions, and “HOYO DE MONTERREY”was born.
“HOYO”means “hole” in Spanish, and the name comes from the shape of this area, which is famous for producing the best tobacco leaves.
“LE HOYO” is a series created in 1970 in response to the growing demand for cigars with a richer flavor. LE HOYO DE SAN JUAN (commonly known as San Juan) was released in 2014 as one of the series.
Vuelta Abajo, which is considered the highest quality tobacco leaf producing region in Cuba, has three major producing regions. It got its name from the fact that it is rolled using tobacco leaves produced in one of them, San Juan y Martínez.
In addition, the leaves used are wrapped only in Lihero and Seco, which are the leaves above the middle of the seedling, giving it a slightly stronger body and more elegant flavor than the soft and gentle impression of the Oyo brand.
