国の重要な式典で発射される礼砲のことをロイヤルサルート(皇礼砲)と言います。
1953年、エリザベス2世の戴冠式にて、21発の皇礼砲が行われました。
それを記念してシーバス・ブラザーズ社が作ったのが『ロイヤルサルート 21年』です。
最初は記念限定品でしたが、あまりにも人気が出たため、現在でも世界中で販売されています。
当時は、女王エリザベス2世の王冠に彩られたルビー、サファイア、エメラルドにちなんで、赤、青、緑の3種類の陶磁器ボトルが作られていました。
この陶器は18世紀に高価なお酒を入れるのに使われていた『フラゴン』と呼ばれる陶器の瓶をモデルにしており、ウェイド・セラミック社が製造していましたが、2019年頃に一新された現在は、ガラス製のボトルで、青、緑、白の３種類に変わりました。
以前は陶磁器ボトルの色が違っても中身は同じでしたが、現在の３種類はそれぞれ違う商品としてリリースされており、青がロイヤルサルートのフラッグシップボトルとされております。青瓶の正式名称は、『シグネチャーブレンド』。
21発の皇礼砲にちなんで、原酒は全て21年以上熟成されたものを使用しており、非常に贅沢で高貴なブレンデッドスコッチと言えます。
シーバス・ブラザーズ社が手掛けているということで、キーモルトはスペイサイド最古の蒸留所であるストラスアイラ蒸留所の原酒が使われています。

The gun salute fired at important national ceremonies is called a royal salute.
In 1953, 21 cannons were fired at the coronation of Queen Elizabeth II.
“Royal Salute 21 Years” was created by Chivas Brothers to commemorate this.
At first it was a commemorative limited edition, but it became so popular that it is still sold all over the world.
At the time, three types of porcelain bottles were produced: red, blue and green, named after the rubies, sapphires and emeralds of Queen Elizabeth II’s crown.
The pottery is modeled after a ‘flagon’, an earthenware bottle used to hold expensive liquor in the 18th century. Currently, it is a glass bottle and has changed to three types: blue, green, and white.
In the past, even if the color of the ceramic bottle was different, the contents were the same, but now the three types are released as different products, and the blue one is Royal Salute’s flagship bottle. The official name of the blue bottle is “Signature Blend”.
All whiskys are aged for 21 years or more, named after the 21 Imperial Cannons, and can be said to be a very luxurious and noble blended scotch.
Since Chivas Brothers is working on it, the key malt is made from the original whisky of the Strath Isla distillery, which is the oldest distillery in Speyside.
“Royal Salute 21 Years Signature Blend” was born out of respect and loyalty to Her Majesty the Queen.
