数あるチョコレートブランドで最も有名といっても過言ではないゴディバ。創業は1926年のベルギー・ブリュッセルでした。
当初は「ショコラトリー・ドラップス」という名で創業され、自宅の地下室を使用し家族全員で経営されていました。
1937年に創業者であるピエール・シニア・ドラップス氏とその夫人も亡くなると、残された4人の子供たちが意志を受け継ぎ、会社を守り続けることにします。
そして二代目を継いだジョセフ・ドラップスは会社名を「ゴディバ」に変更し、世界的ブランドへ至る歴史が始まりました。
ゴディバという名は、1043年の英国の町コヴェントリーに伝わるレディ・ゴディバ伝説に因んでいます。
当時この町の領主となったレオフリック伯爵は、町の発展を願うあまり民に重税を課していました。
それを気の毒に思ったゴディバ夫人は伯爵に税を軽くするよう進言を繰り返したところ、伯爵から「お前が全裸で馬に乗り、町を一周できたら考えよう」と言われてしまいます。
悩んだ末、ゴディバ夫人は意を決してこの案を受け入れて決行、町の人々は夫人の気高さと慈悲深さに敬意を示し、家に引きこもり窓を閉ざし、夫人の姿を見ないように徹底したとされています。
この伝説に感銘を受けたジョセフ・ドラップスは、ゴディバ夫人の慈愛深さを見習って、現在まで深い愛をチョコレートに注いでいます。
ゴディバチョコレートリキュールは、ゴディバ社の厳選された原材料を使用して作られるプレミアムチョコレートリキュールです。
1990年代初頭からアメリカで発売され、甘すぎずそのままロックでも味わえる上品な味わいはたちまち人々を虜にし、世界中で大人気になりました。
しかし、ボトル供給をしているサプライヤーの火災によりボトルの供給がストップ、そのタイミングで瓶詰め業者もアルコール事業から撤退を発表し、2021年に生産停止となったまま未だに再販の目処が立っていません。
現在市場にあるものがラストストックとなる可能性が高く大変残念です。

It is no exaggeration to say that Godiva is the most famous of all chocolate brands. It was founded in Brussels, Belgium in 1926.
Initially, it was founded under the name “Chocolaterie Draps” and was run by the entire family in the basement of their home.
When the founder, Pierre Senior Draps, and his wife passed away in 1937, his four children inherited his will and decided to continue to protect the company.
Joseph Draps, who took over as the second generation, changed the company name to “Godiva,” and the history that led to it becoming a global brand began.
The name Godiva comes from the legend of Lady Godiva, which is passed down in the English town of Coventry in 1043.
At the time, Earl Leofric, who became the lord of the town, imposed heavy taxes on the people in his desire for the town’s development.
Lady Godiva felt sorry for the Earl and repeatedly urged him to reduce the tax, to which the Earl replied, “I’ll consider it if you can ride a horse around the town completely naked.”
After much deliberation, Lady Godiva made up her mind and accepted the plan, and the townspeople respected her nobility and compassion by staying in their homes with the windows closed and making sure not to see her.
Joseph Drapps was inspired by this legend and, following in the footsteps of Lady Godiva’s compassion, has poured his deep love into chocolate to this day.
Godiva Chocolate Liqueur is a premium chocolate liqueur made using carefully selected ingredients from Godiva.
It was released in the United States in the early 1990s, and its elegant taste, which is not too sweet and can be enjoyed on the rocks, quickly captivated people and became a huge hit around the world.
However, a fire at the bottle supplier stopped the supply of bottles, and at that time the bottler also announced its withdrawal from the alcohol business. Production was halted in 2021 and there is still no prospect of resale.
It is very unfortunate that what is currently on the market is likely to be the last stock.
