ジノ・ダビドフによって創業された『Davidoff』は、葉巻に限らず香水やネクタイ、コニャック等幅広く手掛けるブランドです。
ジノ・ダビドフは帝政ロシア時代のキエフで産まれ、その後スイスに移住し、20歳のときにはたばこの栽培や貿易を学ぶために南米やキューバに渡っています。
1967年からキューバでの葉巻の生産を開始しましたが、1990年頃にキューバから撤退し、現在ではドミニカ共和国で最高級のシガーを生産しており、世界中の愛煙家達を虜にしています。
シガーの世界で非常によく目にする「チャーチル」という名は、かつての英国首相ウィンストン・チャーチルからきています。
愛煙家で知られる彼は、従軍記者としてキューバへ訪れた際にシガーと出会いました。
本人も「キューバで学んだのはシガーと昼寝の習慣だ」と言い残しており、一日に6〜8本ものシガーを吸っていたとされています。
公爵家に生まれた貴族でもあり、軍人として青年時代を過ごし、政治家としてその辣腕を振るった、サー・ウィンストン・チャーチル。実は趣味として油彩画を描いていたことはご存じでしょうか。
40歳の頃から始めた絵画の腕前はプロ級で、パブロ・ピカソが「彼は職業を画家としても食っていけるだろう」と言い残しているほどです。

Zino Davidoff was born in Kiev during the Imperial Russian era, then moved to Switzerland, and at the age of 20, he traveled to South America and Cuba to study tobacco cultivation and trade.
He began producing cigars in Cuba in 1967, but withdrew from Cuba around 1990, and now produces the highest quality cigars in the Dominican Republic, captivating smokers all over the world.
The name “Churchill”, which is very common in the cigar world, comes from former British Prime Minister Winston Churchill.
He was known as a heavy smoker and discovered cigars when he visited Cuba as a war correspondent.
Sir Winston Churchill himself said, “What I learned in Cuba was the habit of smoking cigars and taking naps,” and he is said to have smoked six to eight cigars a day.
Sir Winston Churchill was an aristocrat born into a duke family, spent his youth as a soldier, and demonstrated his talent as a politician. But did you know that he also painted oil paintings as a hobby?
