近年は世界的ウイスキーブームとなっており、日本でも多数のクラフトウイスキー蒸留所が立ち上げられております。
ガイアフロー静岡蒸留所もその一つです。創業者である中村大航氏は、元は酒造とは関係のない精密部品会社の代表でしたが、大のウイスキー好きであり、スコットランドへ赴き蒸留所見学を繰り返す内にご自身でウイスキー蒸留所を立ち上げる事を決意したそうです。
ウイスキー作りを学び、中村大航氏が選んだのは奥静岡「オクシズ」の地、安倍川の支流沿いでした。
静岡のヒノキを用いて建てられた蒸留所の建物は、自然と一体になっており、「静岡の自然と調和したウイスキー作りをしたい」という思いを体現しています。
2015年にオークションに出されていた旧軽井沢蒸留所の設備一式を落札。比較的状態がよかったポットスチルを1基とモルトミルを引き継いで修繕し、2016年に本格稼働を始めました。
プロローグK（PROLOGUE K）
2020年に「プロローグK」をリリース、静岡蒸留所の第一作目です。
前述の軽井沢蒸留所で使われていたポットスチルを初留に使った原酒のみを使用しているのが特徴で、このポットスチルは1950年代に日本で作られた蒸気による間接加熱式の蒸留機です。この蒸留機は軽井沢の頭文字をとって『K』と名付けられました。
この蒸留機で作られる原酒は軽やかで華やかな味わいを持つとされております。
プロローグW（PROLOGUE W）
「プロローグK」が発売された翌年に発表されたのが第二作である「プロローグW」。こちらは静岡蒸留所が持つ、もう一つの初留用蒸留機『W』で作られた原酒のみを使用したものです。
『W』は、世界的に見ても数少ない直火式蒸留機であるだけでなく、燃料に薪を使用しているという特徴があります。
このやり方を採用しているのは世界で唯一静岡蒸留所だけであると言われています。
薪直火により生み出された原酒は、パワフルで厚くありながらも、優しい甘みの余韻が続く味わいになっています。『W』の名前の由来は「wood-fired still」の頭文字です。
コンタクトS（CONTACT S）
2つの序章を経て、最初にガイアフロー静岡蒸留所の本章を綴るのは「コンタクトS」で、
2021年の末頃にお披露目されました。『K』の軽やかでフルーティな原酒と、『W』の力強くも優しい原酒、静岡蒸留所を支える2つの初留用蒸留機の原酒を掛け合わせて生み出されました。旧軽井沢蒸留所の魂を受け継ぎ、静岡の自然に囲まれ育まれた、静岡蒸留所の総力を集結した結晶です。

In recent years, there has been a global whisky boom, and many craft whisky distilleries have been launched in Japan.
Gaia Flow Shizuoka Distillery is one of them. The founder, Taiko Nakamura, was originally the representative of a precision parts company unrelated to sake brewing. He is a whisky lover, and after visiting Scotland and touring distilleries, he decided to start his own whisky distillery.
To learn how to make whisky, Daiko Nakamura chose Shizuoka, along a tributary of the Abe River.
The distillery building, built using Shizuoka cypress, is one with nature and embodies the company’s desire to produce whisky that is in harmony with Shizuoka’s nature.
In 2015, he made a successful bid for a complete set of equipment from the former Karuizawa Distillery that was put up for auction. We took over one pot still and malt mill, which were in relatively good condition, repaired them, and began full-scale operation in 2016.
PROLOGUE K
“Prologue K” was released in 2020, and is Shizuoka Distillery’s first product.
It is unique in that it only uses unblended sake that was first brewed in the pot still used at the Karuizawa Distillery mentioned above. This pot still is an indirect steam distillation machine made in Japan in the 1950s. This distiller was named “K” after the initial letter of Karuizawa.
The unblended sake made with this distiller is said to have a light and gorgeous flavor.
PROLOGUE W
The second work, “Prologue W” was released the year after “Prologue K”was released. This is made using only unblended sake made with Shizuoka Distillery’s other first distillation machine, “W”.
“W” is not only one of the few direct-fire distillers in the world, but it also uses wood as fuel.
It is said that Shizuoka Distillery is the only distillery in the world that uses this method.
The unblended sake produced over an open wood fire has a powerful and thick taste with a gentle sweetness that lingers. The origin of the name “W” is the initial of “wood-fired still”.
CONTACT S
After two prologues, the first chapter of Gaia Flow Shizuoka Distillery is written in “Contact S”.
It was unveiled around the end of 2021. It was created by combining the light and fruity spirit of “K”, the powerful yet gentle spirit of “W”, and the spirit of the two first distillation machines that support Shizuoka Distillery. Inheriting the spirit of the former Karuizawa Distillery, this is the crystallization of Shizuoka Distillery’s collective efforts, which was nurtured and nurtured by Shizuoka’s natural surroundings.
