キングスバリー社はスコットランドのアバディーンで設立され、1989年より数々の銘酒をボトリングしてきたインディペンデントボトラーの老舗です。
キングスバリー社が手掛けるデメラララムのダブルマチュアードシリーズは大変人気で、どのボトルもリリース後即完売となり、いずれも入手が非常に困難なものとなっています。
デメラララムとは南米のガイアナ共和国のデメララ川沿いで作られるラムの総称であり、かつては100を越えるサトウキビ農場と蒸留所がデメララ川沿いにあったとされています。しかし時代と共に合併と閉鎖を繰り返して、遂に2000年代の段階ではダイアモンド蒸留所の一箇所となり、かつての蒸留所群の設備を引き継ぎ現在も稼働しています。
年間を通して高温多湿なガイアナ共和国で蒸留し熟成されたラム酒をスコットランドへ運び、ウイスキーを熟成した後の空樽で追熟するというコンセプトがこの「デメラララム ダブルマチュアード」シリーズです。
かつて人気を博したこのシリーズが2020年に10年ぶりの見事な復活を遂げ、そのファーストリリースとして選ばれたのが日本でも大人気なラフロイグの樽でした。
ラム酒としての表情を残しつつもラフロイグが顔を覗かせてくる、ラム酒好きにとっても、ウイスキー好きにとっても面白い味わいです。

Kingsbury’s Double Mature series of Demerara rums is extremely popular, and every bottle is sold out immediately after release, making them extremely difficult to obtain.
Demerara rum is a general term for rum produced along the Demerara River in the Republic of Guyana in South America, and it is said that there were once over 100 sugar cane farms and distilleries along the Demerara River. However, over time, it underwent repeated mergers and closures, and in the 2000s, it finally became part of the Diamond Distillery, which is still in operation today, taking over the equipment of the former distillery group.
The “Demerara Rum Double Matured”series is based on the concept of distilling and aging rum in the Republic of Guyana, which is hot and humid throughout the year, and transporting it to Scotland, where it is further ripened in empty barrels after aging the whisky.
This once popular series made a spectacular comeback in 2020 for the first time in 10 years, and the first release was a Laphroaig barrel, which is very popular in Japan.
It retains the expression of rum, but recasks the Laphroaig flavor, making it an interesting flavor for both rum and whisky-lovers.
Although each release is very popular, it is a series that is extremely rare and valuable as only one cask is bottled. Please enjoy it.
