『ドン・アレハンドロ・ロバイナ』と言えば、葉巻愛好家でその名を知らない者はいないでしょう。
キューバンシガーのゴッドファーザーと称されることもあるドン・アレハンドロは、1919年にキューバで生まれました。
1845年から続くブエルタ・アバホのタバコ農家で生を受けた彼は、僅か10歳の時から家業を手伝っていたとされます。
1951年に父の農園を引き継いでから、キューバ革命の時も逃げることなく農園を守り、多くの農場が国営化していく中で頑なに個人農園であることにこだわって、ついにカストロから特例を出され、個人農園として操業することを認められました。
その背景にはドン・アレハンドロの生産するラッパー用のタバコ葉が、他の追従を許さぬほど高品質で、生産量も多かったという事実がありました。
一般的に生産されたタバコ葉のうち、実際に最高級シガーのラッパーとしての基準を満たせるものが10〜20%であるのに対し、ドン・アレハンドロの農園では約80%もの生産量を誇っていました。
そんなドン・アレハンドロの多大な功績を讃えて1997年に彼の名を冠して新たに登場したのが『ベガス ロバイナ』です。
『ベガス ロバイナ ウニコス』は、ピラミデと呼ばれるヘッドが細く尖っている形状のシガーで、サイズ感としてはパルタガスのセリーP No.2やアップマンNo.2と同じ大きさで、喫煙目安時間70分程とやや大きめのサイズです。
パルタガスほどのスパイシーさはありませんが、濃厚でフルボディな味わいは木質感やコーヒーを思わせます。

Speaking of “Don Alejandro Robaina” there is probably no cigar lover who doesn’t know the name.
Don Alejandro, sometimes referred to as the godfather of Cuban cigars, was born in Cuba in 1919.
He was born on a tobacco farm in Vuelta Abajo, which has been in operation since 1845, and is said to have been helping out in the family business since he was only 10 years old.
He took over his father’s farm in 1951 and defended it during the Cuban Revolution. At a time when many farms were becoming nationalized, he was stubbornly insistent on remaining a private farm, and Castro finally granted him a special exemption that allowed him to operate his farm as a private farm.
The background to this was the fact that the tobacco leaves produced by Don Alejandro for wrappers were of unrivaled quality and were produced in large quantities.
Generally, only 10-20% of the tobacco produced actually meets the standards for a top-quality cigar wrapper. On the other hand, Don Alejandro’s farm boasted about 80% production.
In 1997, in honor of Don Alejandro’s great achievements, a new movie named “Vegas Robaina” was released.
“Vegas Robaina Unicos” is a cigar with a thin, pointed head called a pyramide. In terms of size, it is the same size as Partagas Selly P No. 2 and Upmann No. 2, but it is a slightly larger size with an estimated smoking time of about 70 minutes.
It’s not as spicy as Partagas, but its rich, full-bodied flavor is reminiscent of wood and coffee.
