ジョニーウォーカー スウィング（JOHNNIE WALKER SWING 1990’s distribution）

お酒好きなら誰もが一度は見たことのあるウイスキー、ジョニーウォーカーの始まりは1820年のスコットランド南部の街、キルマーノックで誕生しました。

創業者であるジョン・ウォーカー氏は、自身の食糧雑貨店で様々な蒸留所の原酒を取り寄せてヴァッテッドし、「ウォーカーズ・キルマーノック」と名付けて販売していました。

1865年ごろ、ジョン・ウォーカー亡き後、息子で二代目であるアレクサンダー・ウォーカーはその事業を拡大させ、「ウォーカーズ・キルマーノック」にグレーンウイスキーをブレンドし、ブレンデッドウイスキーの「ウォーカーズオールドハイランド」を作りました。

これが現在のジョニーウォーカーの原型となり、輸送の際に隙間を減らすためにボトルを四角くしたり、酒棚にあってもすぐに見つけられるようにラベルを斜めに貼るといった現在のジョニーウォーカーの特徴もこの時に誕生しました。

そして1909年、アレクサンダー・ウォーカーの息子であるアレクサンダー2世とジョージによってジョニーウォーカーというブランドが誕生しました。

「ジョニーウォーカー スウィング」は、1930年代に大西洋横断の豪華客船のバーに飾ることを想定して作られたもので、ボトルの形状により船が揺れても倒れずゆらゆらと前後に揺れる構造になっています。

スウィングは、発売開始当初はジョニーウォーカーシリーズの中で最高級品としてリリースされており、ブレンドされている原酒も最低熟成17年以上と贅沢な仕様になっています。

しっかりとした甘みを感じられて少しスモーキーな味わいは葉巻とも相性抜群でしょう。

Johnnie Walker, a whisky that any alcohol lover has seen at least once, was founded in 1820 in Kilmarnock, a town in southern Scotland.

The founder, John Walker, ordered raw liquor from various distilleries, vatted it, and sold it under the name “Walker’s Kilmarnock” at his own grocery store.

After John Walker’s death around 1865, his son and second generation owner, Alexander Walker, expanded the business and blended “Walker’s Kilmarnock” with grain whisky to create the blended whisky “Walker’s Old Highland”.

This became the prototype of modern Johnnie Walker, and it was at this time that the current characteristics of Johnnie Walker, such as a square bottle to reduce gaps during transportation and an angled label to make it easy to find on a liquor shelf, were born.

Then in 1909, the Johnnie Walker brand was born by Alexander Walker’s sons, Alexander II and George.

Johnnie Walker Swing was created in the 1930s to be displayed in the bars of luxury cruise ships crossing the Atlantic, and the shape of the bottle was designed to sway back and forth even when the ship rocked and rolled, without tipping over.

When Swing was first released, it was the highest quality product in the Johnnie Walker series, and the liquor used in the blend has been aged for a minimum of 17 years, making it a luxurious product.

Its rich sweetness and slightly smoky taste go perfectly with cigars.

The bottles we have in our shop are old bottles that were in circulation in the 1990s, so even if you’ve tried the current version, we encourage you to give it a try.
