1967年に設立し、長らくブレンデッドウイスキー用の原酒を作るために操業されてきたグレンアラヒー蒸留所。名だたる蒸留所が立ち並ぶスペイサイドの中心部で、知る人ぞ知る幻の蒸留所として存在していました。
転機が訪れたのは2017年、ビリー・ウォーカー氏がグレンアラヒー蒸留所を買収したことから始まりました。
ビリー・ウォーカー氏は、ウイスキー業界では伝説的とまで言われている人物です。
2004年にベンリアック蒸留所を買収、その後にグレンドロナック蒸留所とグレングラッサ蒸留所も買収し、見事に経営を立て直して世界中に多くのファンを持つブランドへと成長させました。
その後2016年にこの3つの蒸留所をジャックダニエルで知られるブラウンフォーマン社へと売却することになります。
この時点でビリー・ウォーカー氏は70歳を超える御年齢でしたが、そのウイスキーへの情熱は尽きる事なく、むしろまだまだ燃え上がっていました。
翌年の2017年に、優良なモルトウイスキーの蒸留所でありながら無名だったグレンアラヒーに可能性を見出し、再びウイスキー作りを始めます。
グレンアラヒー蒸留所の生産量は年間420万リットルと、比較的大規模な設備を持っていました。
ビリー・ウォーカー氏はまず、この生産量を25%まで縮小し、発酵時間も2倍以上長くすることで原酒の持つ香味成分を最適化させました。
「良質なスピリッツを蒸留し、最適なカットを施し、良質な樽で熟成することで必ず良いウイスキーが作れる」という、ビリー・ウォーカー氏の哲学に則って変身したグレンアラヒーは、今や数々の賞を受賞し、世界中のモルト愛好家が注目する存在です。
グレンアラヒー8年は、巨匠ビリー・ウォーカーの長年の経験と知識を元に、ペドロヒメネス樽とオロロソシェリー樽を主体とし、バージンオーク樽や赤ワイン樽などを組み合わせてブレンドされ、グレンアラヒーの個性を表現した一本になりました。
バタースコッチのような甘みに、スパイスや微かにオレンジも感じられる味わい。これから先のビリー・ウォーカー氏の手によって蒸留熟成されたボトルの登場を期待しつつぜひ味わってみてください。
Founded in 1967, Glenallachie Distillery has long been operating to produce raw liquor for blended whiskey. Located in the heart of Speyside, where many famous distilleries stand, it was a mysterious distillery known only to those in the know.
The turning point came in 2017 when Billy Walker acquired Glenallachie Distillery.
Billy Walker is a legendary figure in the whiskey industry.
He acquired BenRiach Distillery in 2004, and then GlenDronach and Glenglassaugh Distilleries, successfully turning the company around and growing it into a brand with many fans around the world.
Then in 2016, the three distilleries were sold to Brown-Forman, known for Jack Daniel’s.
At this point, Billy Walker was over 70 years old, but his passion for whiskey was not waning, and was still burning hot.
The following year, in 2017, he saw the potential of Glenallachie, a distillery that was unknown despite being a high-quality malt whisky distillery, and started making whisky again.
The Glenallachie distillery had a relatively large production capacity of 4.2 million liters per year.
Billy Walker first reduced this production volume by 25% and extended the fermentation time by more than twice as long to optimize the aroma and flavor components of the raw liquor.
Glenallachie has been transformed in accordance with Billy Walker’s philosophy that “good whisky can always be made by distilling high-quality spirits, making optimal cuts, and aging them in high-quality barrels,” and has now won numerous awards and is attracting the attention of malt lovers around the world.
Glenallachie Aged 8years is a blend of Pedro Ximenez and Oloroso sherry barrels, virgin oak barrels, red wine barrels, etc., based on the many years of experience and knowledge of master Billy Walker, and is a bottle that expresses the individuality of Glenallachie.
