お酒好きな方であれば誰もが知るシーバスリーガルの歴史は200年以上前から始まります。
1801年、ハイランド地方の名門農園であるシーバス家。その11人兄弟のうちの1人であったジェームズ・シーバスは、農園を継ぐよりももっと大きい仕事がしたいという思いを抱き、アバディーンへ移住しました。
アバディーンでコーヒーやブランデーといった高級嗜好品を取り扱う商店で働き、ビジネスを学んだジェームズは、やがて商店を引き継ぐことになり、同じ志を持った弟のジョンを呼び寄せました。のちのシーバスブラザーズ社の始まりでした。
顧客の求めるものが無ければ見つける、見つからなければ作り出す。というストイックな姿勢が功を奏し、その評判は王室御用達に任命されるほどになった商店ですが、時代が進みアンドリュー・アッシャーによってブレンデッドウイスキーが発明されると、顧客からの要求もありウイスキーのブレンディング事業も始めました。
1860年に法改正が行われ、ブレンデッドウイスキーがスコッチとして認められるようになるとウイスキーを専門に扱う会社へと舵を切りました。
シーバスリーガルの名が世界まで轟いたのは1909年になってからです。
シーバスブラザーズは25年熟成のブレンデッドウイスキーを発表し、世界を驚かせました。
当時の技術力で25年もの長熟のブレンデッドウイスキーを完成させるのは至難の業で、世界初の偉業でした。
そうして世界中で瞬く間に支持されるようになったシーバスリーガルは今も多くの人に愛されています。
『シーバスリーガル 匠リザーブ』は、日本酒を熟成した樽でフィニッシュをしたユニークな一本。
スコットランドからウイスキーの熟成に使われたオーク樽を日本の富山県にある桝田酒造店へ運び、その樽で吟醸酒『満寿泉』を10ヶ月間熟成。そして空になったオーク樽を再びスコットランドへ送り返し、12年以上熟成したシーバスリーガルの原酒の一部を再度詰めてフィニッシュしています。
この時樽熟成した日本酒は『リンク8』という名前で過去に発売されています。
熟成樽に日本酒樽を用いるのはスコットランドでは前例がありません。そもそもスコットランドにおけるウイスキーの定義だと、日本酒を熟成させていた樽を用いるとスコッチウイスキーを名乗れません。
なので、こちらのボトルもスコッチウイスキーではなく「SPIRIT DRINK」と表記されています。
日本の伝統とスコットランドの伝統が掛け合わさる事で誕生した過去に類を見ない斬新で革新的なボトル。匠という名前はそれぞれの国の酒造りの伝統と職人技へ敬意を込めてつけられました。

The history of Chivas Regal, known to all alcohol lovers, dates back over 200 years.
In 1801, the Chivas family owned a prestigious Highland farm. James Chivas, one of the family’s 11 brothers, moved to Aberdeen, hoping to do something bigger than inherit the farm.
In Aberdeen, James worked and learned business at a store selling luxury goods such as coffee and brandy. He eventually took over the store and called on his like-minded younger brother, John, to come over. This was the beginning of what would become Chivas Brothers.
This stoic attitude, “If it’s not there, find it; if it’s not there, make it,” paid off, and the store’s reputation grew to the point that it was appointed a Royal Warrant holder. As time went on, and Andrew Usher invented blended whisky, customer demand prompted the store to launch its own whisky blending business.
When the law was revised in 1860 and blended whisky was recognized as Scotch, the company shifted its focus to specializing in whisky.
It wasn’t until 1909 that Chivas Regal’s name became known worldwide.
Chivas Brothers surprised the world by introducing a 25-year-old blended whisky.
With the technology available at the time, creating a blended whisky that was aged for 25 years was an extremely difficult feat and a world first.
Chivas Regal quickly gained popularity around the world and is still beloved by many today.
Chivas Regal Takumi Reserve is a unique product finished in casks that have been used to age sake.
Oak barrels previously used to age whisky were transported from Scotland to Masuda Sake Brewery in Toyama Prefecture, Japan, where the ginjo sake Masuizumi was aged for 10 months. The empty oak barrels were then shipped back to Scotland, where they were filled with a portion of Chivas Regal spirits aged for over 12 years.
The barrel-aged sake from this production has previously been released under the name “Link 8.”
Using sake barrels for maturation is unprecedented in Scotland. According to the Scottish definition of whiskey, if a barrel that had previously been used to age sake is used, it cannot be called Scotch whiskey.
As such, this bottle is labeled “SPIRIT DRINK” rather than Scotch whiskey.
This is an unprecedented, original and innovative bottle, born from the blending of Japanese and Scottish traditions. The name “Takumi” pays homage to the sake-brewing traditions and craftsmanship of each country.
