スコッチウイスキー好きなら「アイラフェスティバル」という存在を耳にしたことが一度はあるのではないでしょうか？
これは1985年頃からアイラ島で行われるお祭りで、当初は衰退しつつあるゲール文化の復興を目的としたものでした。
スコッチウイスキーの聖地とも呼ばれるアイラ島。各蒸留所もフェスティバルに参加し、いつからかウイスキーの祭典として知られるようになり、2000年頃から各蒸留所が日替わりで蒸留所を開放し限定ウイスキーの販売や試飲を行うオープンデーというものが行われるようになり、今のウイスキーと音楽の祭典としての姿になりました。
フェスティバルのフィナーレを飾るのがアードベッグ蒸留所。この日がいわゆるアードベッグデーと呼ばれる日です。
この日は世界中の都市で同じように祭典を執り行い、世界中のファン達が一斉にアードベッグを手にして乾杯する日です。
2024年のアードベッグデーで発表されたのが「アードベッグ スペクタキュラー」。サーカスをモチーフとしたデザインのラベルで登場しました。
スペクタキュラーとは「荘厳で目を見張る」や「壮大で素晴らしい」といった意味を持つ単語で、素晴らしい景観やショーを目にした時に使われる感動を表す言葉です。
レ・ミゼラブルのワールドツアーのタイトルに使われたこともあり、そちらを思い浮かべる方もいらっしゃるのではないでしょうか。
アードベッグのスペクタキュラーは、アードベッグ史上初のポートワイン樽熟成原酒をヴァッティングした一本。ポートワイン樽由来の熟成感のあるフルーティーな甘みが特徴となっています。

If you’re a fan of Scotch whisky, you’ve likely heard of the Islay Festival.
This festival has been held on the island of Islay since around 1985, originally with the aim of reviving Gaelic culture, which was in decline.
Islay is also known as the holy land of Scotch whisky. Each distillery also participates in the festival, and it eventually became known as a whisky festival. Around 2000, each distillery began holding Open Days, where they open their doors to the public on a rotating basis and sell and offer tastings of limited edition whisky, catapulting the festival into its current form as a whisky and music festival.
The festival concludes at the Ardbeg Distillery. This day is known as Ardbeg Day.
Similar festivals are held in cities around the world on this day, when fans from all over the world toast together, holding Ardbeg glasses in hand.
For Ardbeg Day in 2024, Ardbeg Spectacular was announced, featuring a label designed with a circus motif.
Spectacular is a word that means “majestic and stunning” or “grand and wonderful,” and is used to express the emotion felt when witnessing a beautiful sight or show.
It was also used as the title of the Les Miserables world tour, so some people may think of that.
Ardbeg Spectacular is the first Ardbeg to be vatted with malt aged in port wine barrels. It has a fruity sweetness with the aged flavor derived from the port wine barrels.
Whisky aged in port wine barrels tends to pair well with cigars, so if you like peaty flavors, be sure to try it out.
