バランタイン リミテッド（Ballantine’s LIMITED）

バランタイン社の創設者、ジョージ・バランタインは13歳の時には従弟奉公に行き、その約5年後、修行を終えてエディンバラに自身の食料品店を開業したことがバランタイン社の始まりです。

当初はモルトウイスキーなどを取り扱っていましたが、1853年にジョージの友人だったアンドリュー・アッシャーがブレンデッドウイスキーを発明し、その話を聞いたジョージ・バランタインはいち早く自分自身でもブレンデッドウイスキーの開発を始めました。

やがてグラスゴーに移住し、ブレンド技術の更なる高みを目指すようになると、ジョージのブレンデッドスコッチの評判も上がり、すっかり指折りのウイスキーブレンダーとして数えられるようになっていきました。

ジョージが亡くなって約50年後に、2代目マスターブレンダー達の手によってジョージの名を冠した『バランタイン17年』が作られ、今でもバランタインのフラッグシップボトルとして人々に愛されています。

『バランタイン LIMITED』は、偉大な創業者ジョージ・バランタインのスタイルに敬意を込めて作られた限定版のブレンデッドスコッチ。30年以上熟成された貴重な長熟のモルトウイスキーにあえて若いグレーンウイスキーを合わせることで、長熟の原酒しか使用できない『17年』や『30年』の年数表記モノと差別化された、理想的なブレンドをより自由に実現した一本です。

George Ballantine, founder of Ballantine’s, went to work for his cousin at the age of 13, and about five years later, after completing his training, he opened his own grocery store in Edinburgh, which marked the beginning of Ballantine’s.

Initially, he sold malt whiskey, but in 1853, George’s friend Andrew Usher invented blended whiskey, and upon hearing about it, George Ballantine quickly began developing his own blended whiskey.

When he eventually moved to Glasgow and began to aim for even greater heights in his blending techniques, George’s blended Scotch’s reputation grew, and he became one of the leading whiskey blenders.

About 50 years after George’s death, the second generation of master blenders created Ballantine’s Aged17years, which bears his name, and is still loved by people as Ballantine’s flagship bottle.

Ballantine’s LIMITED is a limited edition blended Scotch made in homage to the style of the great founder George Ballantine. By combining precious, long-aged malt whiskey, aged for over 30 years, with young grain whiskey, this bottle achieves an ideal blend with more freedom, differentiating it from 17-year and 30-year age labels, which can only be made using long-aged malt whiskey.

This bottle was released once in 2015, but was so well-received that it was re-released in 2017 with a new bottle design. As you can see from the bottle design, this blended whiskey is rich, elegant, and characterized by a soft taste. Please give it a try.
