1815年に正式に蒸留所として創業し、強烈なスモーキーさの中に甘みをしっかりと持つことから、世界中に熱狂的なファンを持つアードベッグ蒸留所。しかし歴史的に見ると何度も閉鎖の危機を乗り越えてきた過去を持ちます。
転機となったのは1997年、グレンモーレンジ社が蒸留所を購入したのをきっかけに業績は好転していき、不死鳥の如く復活を遂げます。
そして2000年には、二度と閉鎖の危機に陥ったりしないようファンたちで支えるためのファンクラブ、『アードベッグコミッティー』が設立されました。
このコミッティーのメンバー向けに現在も定期的にユニークな限定ボトルがリリースされています。
2009年、最高蒸留製造責任者であるビル・ラムズデン博士は、より強烈にピーティーでスモーキーなアードベッグを作りたいと考え、フェノール値100ppm以上もある『アードベッグ スーパーノヴァ』を開発しました。
これは通常の『アードベッグTEN』と比べると倍近い数値を誇ることになります。
アードベッグコミッティーにて数量限定で発売開始されると、わずか1時間52分で完売してしまうといった伝説を残すなど、ファンからの注目度も非常に高い限定ボトルとなっています。
そのため、その次の年から定期的に、少しずつブラッシュアップされて限定発売されるようになっていきました。
今やアードベッグ史上最も人気のシリーズと言えます。
こちらはその初代で、2009年に限定リリースされたスーパーノヴァ1st。まさにその名の通り星の爆発と表現したくなる強烈なピーティーさは、タールを想わせるほどです。

Ardbeg Distillery was officially founded in 1815 and has enthusiastic fans all over the world for its intense smoky yet sweet taste. However, looking at its history, it has overcome the threat of closure many times.
The turning point came in 1997, when Glenmorangie purchased the distillery, which led to an upturn in business and a phoenix-like comeback.
In 2000, the Ardbeg Committee was established as a fan club to support the distillery and ensure that it never faces another threat of closure.
Unique limited edition bottles are still regularly released for members of this committee.
In 2009, Dr. Bill Ramsden, Chief Distiller, wanted to create a more intensely peaty and smoky Ardbeg, so he developed Ardbeg Supernova, which has a phenol value of over 100 ppm.
This is nearly double the value of the regular Ardbeg TEN.
When the Ardbeg Committee released a limited quantity of these, they sold out in just one hour and 52 minutes, making them a legendary limited edition bottle that has attracted a lot of attention from fans.
As a result, from the following year, they began to be released in limited quantities on a regular basis, little by little, with slight improvements.
It is now the most popular series in Ardbeg’s history.
This is the first of these, Supernova 1st, released in limited quantities in 2009. Just as its name suggests, the intense peaty flavor is reminiscent of a star explosion, and is so strong that it is reminiscent of tar.
