スコットランドのアイラ島で生産されているとてもピートが強くスモーキーなことが特徴的なアードベッグ蒸留所。1815年に創業、一時はアイラ島最大の生産量を記録した時代もある中、生産停止から閉鎖の危機に陥るなど、波乱万丈な時期がありながらも現在は見事に復活して、誰もが知る一大ブランドを築いています。
毎年世界各国で同時開催されるアードベッグデーと呼ばれるイベントは、世界中のウイスキー愛好家が集い全員で祝う一大イベントとして支持されています。
元々は、アイラフェスと呼ばれるアイラ島の各蒸留所がそれぞれの日に蒸留所を開放して限定ボトルや貴重なウイスキーが味わえるイベントでアイラウイスキー愛好家には魅力的で心奪われるビッグイベントです。
こちらは2023年から各年1種類限定販売されているシリーズで、スコットランドにまつわる神話や幻獣に焦点を当て製作されているアンソロジーコレクションです。ハーピー、ユニコーンに続きこのシリーズ最終章となる3つ目のボトルが、このべヒルズテール。スコットランドに伝わる幻獣べヒルをテーマに力強い仕上がりになっています。
べヒルとは、翼を持たないドラゴンや蛇のような姿で、雷が降る夏の夜に出現すると伝えられ、その長く蛇行する姿が、人々に畏怖の念や神秘的な光景を思い起こさせるとされております。力強いピート香と全てを包み込むようないつまでも続く甘い余韻で幻獣べヒルの伝承を表現しています。
このボトルの特徴の一つでもある、デザイナーバーボンカスクとよばれる自然乾燥させた樽は丁寧に長時間トーストして作り上げられます。短時間で樽の内側を焦がしたアードベッグにとってこれまでにない新しい方法で作られた樽を使用し、15年もの期間熟成されました。これにより通常のアードベッグの香りに加え、上品で深みのある糖蜜の香りがプラスされ、喉を通り抜けたあとも深い余韻と甘美な時間がいつまでも続きます。
最終章にしてこれまでのワイン樽ではなく、最も挑戦的で革新的な全く新しい樽を自分たちで作り出し熟成させたひとつのシリーズ終着点。ぜひお楽しみください。

Despite these challenges, it has made a remarkable comeback and established itself as a major, globally recognized brand.
The annual Ardbeg Day event, held simultaneously in countries around the world, is a highly celebrated event where whisky enthusiasts from around the globe gather to celebrate.
Originally known as the Islay Festival, it was an event where each distillery on Islay opened its doors on different days, offering limited-edition bottles and rare whiskies for tasting—a captivating and enchanting event for Islay whisky lovers.
This particular whisky is part of an anthology collection, released annually since 2023, focusing on myths and mythical creatures associated with Scotland. Following the Harpy and Unicorn, this third and final bottle in the series is Behir’s Tale. It features a powerful design themed around Behir, a mythical creature from Scottish folklore. The Behir is a mythical creature resembling a wingless dragon or snake, said to appear on summer nights when thunderstorms strike. Its long, winding movements are said to evoke awe and a sense of mystery. This whisky expresses the legend of the Behir with its powerful peaty aroma and a long, enveloping sweet finish.
One of the distinguishing features of this bottle is the designer bourbon cask, a naturally dried barrel carefully toasted for an extended period. This new method, unprecedented for Ardbeg, involves briefly charring the inside of the barrel, and the whisky is aged for 15 years in this cask. This adds an elegant, deep molasses aroma to the usual Ardbeg scent, leaving a long, lingering, and sweet finish.
This final chapter marks the culmination of a series, where the whisky is aged in a completely new and innovative cask—not the wine casks used previously—a truly challenging and innovative approach. Please enjoy.
