イギリスの酒類専門誌「Drinks International」が企画する、販売数やトレンドを元に世界の一流バーで最も人気なクラシックカクテルを決めるランキングで、9年間連続で入賞している脅威の人気を誇るカクテル、それがネグローニです。
2015年のランキングで2位に輝き、そこから2021年まで7年連続2位でしたが、ついに2022年と2023年で2回連続1位を獲得しています。
ネグローニが誕生したのは1919年イタリアのフィレンツェ、「カソーニ」というリストランテの常連客だったカミーロ・ネグローニ伯爵が「アメリカーノ(スイートベルモット、カンパリ、ソーダで作られるカクテル)よりもっと強いカクテルを」とオーダーしたのがきっかけで、バーテンダーのフォスコ・スカルセーリ氏がソーダをジンに変えたカクテルを提供したところ、これが好評を博したことが始まりとされています。
その後1962年にフォスコ・スカルセーリ氏本人によってこのカクテルにネグローニと名をつけて世界に発表し、イタリアだけに留まらず世界中で愛されるカクテルになりました。
日本ではあまり馴染みのない食前酒を飲むという文化ですが、カンパリのほろ苦さにスイートベルモットの甘みがマッチした味わいが、海外では食前酒の1杯として非常に人気です。

A ranking of the most popular classic cocktails from the world’s top bars, based on sales numbers and trends, is organized by the British liquor magazine Drinks International. The Negroni is an incredibly popular cocktail that has won awards for nine years in a row.
It took 2nd place in the ranking in 2015, and from there it remained in 2nd place for 7 consecutive years until 2021, and finally won 1st place twice in a row in 2022 and 2023.
The Negroni was born in Florence, Italy in 1919. Count Camillo Negroni, a regular customer at a ristorante called Casoni, ordered a cocktail that was stronger than the Americano (a cocktail made with sweet vermouth, Campari, and soda). It is said that bartender Fosco Scalceri created a cocktail by replacing soda with gin, which was well received.
Later, in 1962, Mr. Fosco Scalceri himself named this cocktail Negroni and announced it to the world, and it became a cocktail loved not only in Italy but all over the world.
The culture of drinking aperitifs is not very familiar in Japan, but the combination of the bitterness of Campari and the sweetness of sweet vermouth makes it very popular as an aperitif overseas.
